Young and proud
Who: Jake, Bun, and the rest of camp!
When: June 11th, around 1 o'clock
Where: Just outside the lodge.
What: One Jr. Counselor and one Senior Camper are hosting a demonstration of sorts. They are also going to blast the hell out of each other for shits and giggles. YAY LEARNING AND FUN
Warnings: Jake's incorrigible vernacular
These sorts of demonstrations weren't exactly unheard of. Really, now that camp was in full swing it was only right for the campers to get an idea of what they were getting into. What better way to showcase the sort of awesome that came with learning a skill with Marksmanship?
Nothing other than a gentlemanly duel to the death, obviously.
So at approximately 1 o'clock, Jake and Bunny stood just outside the lodge near the haystack targets with their backs together. Once there was a sizable gathering of curious onlookers, Jake grinned and sent a quick telepathic message to his dueling partner.
It's about showtime, I think. What say you?

LET THE FISTICUFFS BEGIN
Bunny can't resist a smirk, giving a little nod.
On the count of three. Try not t' look good excited, alright?
The breath Bunny takes in is an excited one, nerves only pressing at his lungs in his excitement. This was always fun, a little bit of a performance-- or in Normal Guy Terms, a great big chance to show off.
One...
Two...
Three.
On the count, Bunny takes his first stride, trusting Jake to do the same.

But without another word, Jake waited for the count and began taking his paces in tandem with Bunny. Oh, yes. It was a chance to show off, but more than anything, it was a chance to blow off some steam. His mind had been decidedly cluttered with fret and stress that he really needed to do something mindless and exhausting to get it out of his system.
It might also serve to make him forget about how guilty he felt for ditching Dirk on his clairvoyance lessons. Nope, no thinking about that.
On the tenth step, Jake gave no hesitation as he pivoted and fired the first shot.

Having effectively deflected it he shot toward Jake's heels, knowing better than to try and anticipate Jake's shots-- from what he's seen the boy's a bit of a wild card and it's fitting in Bunny's opinion, and is probably why he found it fun to do these demonstrations with Jake in the first place. Jake was a sharp shooter and good at concentrating his aggression, and Bunny knew better than to underestimate him as much as he might tease the boy. There was no point in trying to outmanoeuvre a good shooter-- just to try to overpower them, shoot quicker, shoot better, shoot more aggressively.

Jake braced himself as Bunny ran for him, and then dived bodily out of the way when he got close. Doing a harsh tumble to he ground, Jake rolled back up to his knees and shot again before running in the opposite direction.

Bouncing out of the way of Jake's next shot, Bun crouches on his hands and knees and fires another shot of his own. Springing forward with a few levitation bounces that seem much more rabbit than human, he lets himself get closer before tailing Jake on foot.
"Runnin' away this time?" he asks with a grin. "C'mon, English, how fun is that?"
no subject
With that, Jake digs his heels into the ground and crouches low, conjuring his best psi-shield. He's not proficient in that practice so really all it will take is one hit to shatter it, but hell if it won't feel like hitting a wall, at first. If he's successful, he'll use that to roll and get some distance between them so he can properly shoot.
wow I love how I keep switching tenses my bad
"Hell if I was expecting that!" Bunny laughs. "Looks like you did bring your a-game."
Bunny's own Psi-shield isn't much stronger; he relies more on evasion and hasn't put much thought into the badge. So rather than set up his own shield, Bunny dashes forward and double-jumps, sending his own shot Jake's way from the air.
Which, of course, leaves him open to return shots for a few seconds (it's levitation, audience, not flight), but it's worth the risk.
what is tense control we just dont know
"You should expect nothing less!"
Jake, however, isn't as quick to retaliate and he gets shot in shoulder as he's aiming to dodge. The force knocks him off his feet, taking the wind out of his sails for a moment. So, Bunny got first blood.
That didn't mean Jake was staying down, far from it. Letting the stars in his eyes dissipated, Jake rolls over and shoves himself back to his feet again, hopefully before Bunny gets the idea to rain hell from above. He aims another shot before he takes off running after him.
I actually don't think I've done such an actiony thread ever
Bunny's agile for his height, but Jake spars almost wildly in comparison. Frightening? Hardly. Thrilling? Definitely.
He attempts to get a bit more distance between them, focusing on that instead of firing another shot. He's got plans, at least. "And here I was thinkin' this'd be boring!" he shouts, glancing over his shoulder a moment.
