Basic Braining [OPEN; June 10th, 6 AM.]
Who: OPEN
When: 6 AM on Monday, June 10th
Where: Coach Oleander's mind
What: Basic Braining!
Warnings: TBA
Let's hope that you all managed to get plenty of sleep, because it is the buttcrack of dawn and everyone needs to rise and shine because Coach Oleander is expecting you all in his lab at 6 AM on the dot. Coach Oleander is standing there stoic, hands clasped behind his bac as he regards everyone with a look of disdain. When everyone has arrived, the yelling starts like normal.
"Alright you maggots, it's time for Basic Braining! Let's hope that you haven't slacked off because this camp only takes the VERY BEST, you got that?" Hopefully no one responds, because Coach Oleander does not like to be sassed, as everyone should know by now. "You're in for a real challenge today and I expect each and every one of you to make it through!" He reaches into his pocket, and pulls out his little psycho portal. He levitates it up and onto his forehead. After a moment, it opens, signalling the start of the day's lesson.
His mind starts off as nothing more than a simple room that some might say looks like a dentist's office. A moment later, a projector on a desk in the middle of the room flicks on, and once again Coach Oleander is speaking, appearing as an image broadcast from the projector. "Welcome to my recruitment office, kids. I'm here to recruit you to the greatest job in the world; being a Psychonaut."
As he speaks, the sounds of what can only be described as war can be heard from outside the office, though there is no foreseeable way to get out, as there are no doors or windows. "I hope you're ready to face death, torture and insanity, because that is what's waiting for you outside of this room, and this is your last chance to chicken out!"
Should anyone decide that they do indeed want to chicken out, the response will be, "Too late, Soldier! There's only one way out of here, and that's fighting. Now I want one of you maggots to sock me in the jaw!" When he doesn't offer any explanation and someone finally does buck up and punch him, the wall will fall and they will be greeted with the battleground that could be heard. The landscape is very much like a warzone, trenches that you have to jump over, razor wire that you must crawl through and a whole lot of explosions.
Welcome to Basic Braining, try not to die.
[ooc: Go ahead and go at it. use this as a reference if you're unfamiliar with canon. Feel free to start a thread for your team wether you're the team leader or not. Back tagging is going to be encouraged because many of our players are away at a con.]

Tsuruya's Team
All right, everybody! It's my goal as a team leader to gets you all through this safely, so keep sharp and stay smart! Coach ain't exactly the type to pull punches even though this is the first course of the camp, as I'm sure you remember, Marcie-nyu! So let's hop to it! CHARRRRGE!

This'll be a piece of cake.
SIX THOUSAND YEARS LATER
But then, someone had helped him in. He was completely distracted from Tsuruya's excitement by the fact that he was standing on two feet, marvelling and silent as he squished his toes in his shoes, flexed his knees, the smile on his face wide enough to crack his cheeks. He doesn't even listen to her after that--letting out a whoop of joy, the eight year old runs for one of the climbing walls, ready to re-participate in one of his favorite things to do in the world before the accident.]
Hooray!
Sure enough, a part of the climbing wall explodes not far from where Bran is. Tsuruya winces. "Don't go in too fast! I still gots to explain some of the stuff to you! Like see those weird floating drawings and stuff? Those are figments! I hear if you collect a lotta them, something good might happen!"
York's Team
Okay. A few words of wisdom: keep your heads screwed on tight, miss no detail, and be sure to watch your step. Mostly likely this course is designed to do more than just test your athleticism and psychic ability.
I'll be around for support and advice, but other than that... you're on your own. Good luck.

[Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as always. He'd finally gotten the right sleep, so he was all kinds of ready for this. Basic Braining was a breeze nowadays. Well. Mostly.]

[ LSP looked nonchalant, but inwardly, she was kind of freaking. Like, failing at this would basically be the most embarrassing thing ever??? Gotta focus, gotta focus. ]
no subject
Then this shouldn't be a problem for either of you. [At that, he looked out to the big-ass climbing wall just outside the "office": broken, burnt, and studded with barbed wire and random flagpoles. Ah, nostalgic.]

[ Is that panic in her voice??? hahahhahha you're nuts of course not omgomgomg ]
Martin's Team
"You boys are no strangers to this course. I'll do my best to leave you to it - but all the same, look sharp! I'll do my best to stay close, in case you need any assistance."
Sorry this is so late, Katsucon and everything. SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS
[Gumball can't help but give Jack an amused grin. What a match-up this time! And with quite a good professor, he must admit. If anything, Basic Braining is going to be very fun this year.]
I'm very glad to be working with you today, Professor Martin.
[...Even if there would probably be quite a bit of trouble made between Jack and Gumball.]
I have no excuse except for waiting for Luc to get back
Likewise.
Apacci's Team - Courtney and Trowa
All right, listen up. You've gotta get through here as fast as you can while missing as little as possible. Think of it like a high speed scavenger hunt. I'll be watching your times and I'll let you know if you're lagging behind.
[She pulls out a pair of stopwatches specifically for the occasion.]
Any questions?
Apacci's Team - Courtney and Trowa
Uh yeah. Why do we have to go inside this head?
[Oh god! That had...she really had said that?! In like, a normal type of conversation. She looks surprised for a second before just sighing in frustration.]
Nevermind...let's...let's just get this stupid thing over with.
Sorry I'm late!
Trowa remembers this pretty well. He remembers it mostly because it looked very little like the war zone he spent most of his life in. Or rather, the planes and other weapons didn't--the explosions and broken fencing and mines were pretty familiar. Some things didn't exactly change.
It is exactly this nonchalance in the face of smoking craters that made getting his Basic Braining badge a relatively efficient affair last summer.
It was after that first badge that things got hard.
He regards Courtney for a moment; then, in what is meant to be something resembling a reassurance:]
You can't actually die in his head.

TEAM STILINSKI REPRESENT
Alright, gu-girls, you can do it, this thing's easy as pie--keep an eye out for figments and, uh. [It's sort of like he knows this from experience, and he winces a little.] Watch your step. Definitely watch your step. I'm right behind you watching your time, and my psi-blasts are like questionable at best so I won't shoot at you.
[And then he grins at Arya and claps them both on the shoulders again, standing up.] Much.
Aight, come on, let's do this!
no subject
You say all that as though you've fallen here a few times, Stiles.
[Arya's seen his marksmanship before, and sticks her tongue out. It does leave something to be desired.
She turns to Agatha, nodding.]
Are you ready?
HELLO I AM HERE AT LAST
But this was why Aggie had come here, and this was the first real step in her training. She might be scared, but she isn't going to back out now (not that it seemed like she had the option to). She's got Stiles and Arya to help her too, which she's grateful for.
So, she takes a deep breath, before nodding back to Arya, determined.]
I'm ready!
WHOOP WHOOP
I'm right behind you. You can do it, just keep moving!
WHAT DO WE SAY TO THE WALL OF DEATH
Arya gives Aggie a small smile, grabs her hand, and runs toward the climbing wall. She may not be as good at climbing as Bran...well, as he used to be, but she's decent. She looks up at the wall and sticks her foot in the first foothold, looking down at her partner.]
Try to keep up! We can pull eachother up the wall.
no subject
I'll do my best!
[She joins Arya in beginning to climb the wall, getting into the foothold next to her.]
/late as always
Re: /late as always
She has to keep going, despite how tough it is.
When they finally get to the top of the wall, she gives both her partner and her mentor a grin, and then asks:]
What's next, then?
/joins the late party
--We made it!
[Even though it was tiring, she feels rather proud of herself. She knows she still has a way to go though, so she thinks about what an accomplishment it'll be when she earns her very first badge!
Plus, practice makes perfect, right?
Aggie then looks up to see something just a few feet ahead that catches her eye.
A still image of a crouching soldier, about as big as she is, transparent but with a luminous outline.
She almost mistakes it for a ghost at first, until she realizes it isn't moving at all. It's more like... some sort of glowing picture?
Curiously but carefully, she steps forward, beginning to approach it]
aw yes late fiesta
That's called a figment. Get it, figments of our imagination? It's hilarious. [Deadpan.] You want to try and grab as many of those suckers as possible--go ahead, reach out and touch it. [Stiles glances down at the little stopwatch he's holding and calls out;] But quick, though!
no subject
Still, she beckons to Aggie and begins to run after a figment-soldier, grasping at him with her hands.]
Why are they shaped like soldiers?
TEAM RANDALL GO sorry for the late guys
Alright you two! It's not going to be easy, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.
[He grins and waves his finger back and forth a bit.] Unfortunately, there will be no hints here! You'll have to solve this all on your own. Just keep your wits about you; I'm positive you two will do just fine!
no subject
[Keep it together, Babcock. You're a psychic, that means you can do this.]
[He just ...needed to step really carefully through the mine field.]
